Demonstrate evidence of successful research internship experience supervised by a faculty

I completed my internship with Dr. Lindsay Harris, an Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology at Northern Illinois University, during the summer and fall 2018 semesters.  Included in this section are artifacts highlighting my research internship experiences as well as the assigned tasks, (Artifact #1 Task Documents).

As a research assistant working under the guidance of Dr. Harris, I contributed to writing and finalizing the Institutional Review Board application for a research project titled, “Rethinking phonological awareness: An investigation of lexical stress insensitivity as an early precursor of risk for reading disability.”  Additionally, beginning January 2018, I supported two vital research projects related to lexical and phonological learning patterns of Human Cognitive Development.  As part of Dr. Harris’ research project titled, “Cross-modal effects in tactile, visual, and auditory word learning,” I conducted fourteen experiment trials with visually impaired braille readers.  In this role, I was responsible for seeking out possible candidates, screening participants, scheduling appointments, and completing the research trials.  Furthermore, I conducted and wrote a literature review for a research project titled, “Expertise Seeks Rewards: Error-Related Negativity and Defensive Motivation in Spelling Decisions.”  In this role, I was tasked with determining whether the research literature provided evidence for monetary incentives as an influencing agent to children’s learning motivation.

The culmination of my research assistantship concluded by being featured in Dr. Harris research project titled "Expertise Seeks Rewards: Error-Related Negativities and Defensive Motivation in Spelling Decisions (Artifact #2 Conference Poster)  & (Artifact #3 Conference Poster)

Lastly, attached is Dr. Harris' letter of completion regarding my internship experience (Artifact #4 Letter of Completion).
